You understand you will be introduced to a modality called Emotional Freedom Techniques (“EFT”) as well as other emerging energy-based coaching, and self-help methods collectively referred to as the Energy Methods. Energy Methods refers to a variety of alternative and complementary techniques based on the use, modification, and manipulation of energy fields that look at imbalances, disruptions, or incomplete processing within people’s energy system as well as the energetic influence of thoughts, beliefs, and emotions on the body.  The Energy Methods are a growing field and may include, but are not limited to, EFT, TFT, TAT,TAB, FasterEFT,  BSFF, Meridian Tapping,  and frequently incorporate NLP
(See the end of this document for definitions.)

While EFT has been used by thousands of practitioners, therapists, nurses, social workers, psychologists, doctors, teachers, and individuals worldwide with exceptional results and
minimal side effects, this does  not guarantee that you will not experience any negative side effects.   If you use EFT and meridian tapping techniques on yourself, you agree to take full responsibility for yourself and the treatment. You acknowledge and understand that author does not know or represent how you will personally respond or whether the Energy Methods will help you with a particular problem or issue.  Any stories or testimonials expressed by the individuals who contribute content to this site are solely their own and do not constitute a warranty, guarantee, or prediction regarding the outcome of any particular individual using any of the Energy Methods for any particular issue EFT has yielded remarkable results for relieving emotional and physical distress and enhancing performance.   Although the Energy Methods appear to have promising mental, spiritual, and physical benefits, they have yet to be fully researched by the Western academic, medical, and psychological communities and
are therefore considered experimental.

Due to the differences in the assumptions of classical scientific research and the assumptions inherent “mind-body” integration, it is possible that the Energy Methods will long remain under the “experimental” heading.  (That being said, the Iraq Veterans Stress Study, which includes a control group, is now under way to bring EFT in particular into the category of an “Evidence-Based” approach.   While no studies can clearly show HOW EFT works, this controlled study with its ever-growing size is well on its way to demonstrating THAT it works.)  Regardless of this outcome of this or future studies, you, specifically, agree to take complete personal responsibility for your use of EFT and agree to assume and accept full responsibility for any and all risks associated with the reading and use of this material, of EFT, and any of the family of the Energy Methods.

This information is offered in a good faith effort to expand the use of EFT in the world.   It represents the ideas of Marilyn McWilliams and does not necessarily accurately represent those of retired EFT
founder, Gary Craig.  You can research EFT directly through EFT founder Gary Craig’s site: www.emofree.com.

You understand and agree that all the information presented is for your personal use.  You further understand that if you choose to use the EFT or any of the family of Energy Methods, it is possible that
emotional of physical sensations or additional unresolved memories may surface which could be perceived as negative side effects.  Emotional material may continue to surface after using EFT, indicating other issues that may need to be addressed.  Involuntary reactions to traumatic memories may
tend to decrease.

EFT and the Energy Methods should not be considered a substitute for medical examination, diagnosis, or for medical or psychological treatment.  Reading this material and using EFT on yourself or receiving EFT from a certified practitioner do not replace health care from medical and psychological professionals.  You agree to consult with your health care provider as appropriate for any mental or physical ailment of which you are aware.

A small number of people may have emotional or physical frailty such that they should not seek or
attempt ANY procedure without the presence of a licensed therapist or medical professional. If you are in this category, you must be accompanied by your mental health care provider at any session work.  If you are under a physician’s or psychiatrist’s care, or on serious medications, or consider yourself otherwise
vulnerable, you are hereby advised to seek the advice of your medical or psychiatric professional.  You take full responsibility for your personal health and safety and your compliance with all of your
current medical treatments, therapies and prescriptions is expected and assumed.  In addition, you understand that any information presented or referenced here is not to be considered a recommendation that you stop seeing any of your health care professionals or using prescribed medication, if any, without consulting with your health care professional even if after reading the materials and using EFT it appears to you or is your opinion that such medication or therapy are unnecessary. The author strongly advises, you seek professional advice as appropriate before making medical decisions and before implementing any protocol or opinion, including those expressed or referenced on this site.

While Marilyn McWilliams is not a licensed psychologist, psychotherapist, physician, or other licensed
health care professional, over the past 30 years she has actively studied life coaching, counseling, neuro-associative conditioning, neuro-linguistic programming, has certified in client-centered (non-directive) hypnotherapy and has certified in EFT through its now-retired founder Gary Craig.
She is not licensed to diagnosis, prescribe, or treat any mental or physical or mental illness and no information presented or referenced on this website about the Energy Methods, or anything said in the
course of a session should be construed as such.
She offers her services only through EFT Catalyst LLC. and only as a mentor, life coach, and EFT practitioner.

Some are of the opinion that without medical, psychological, or similar licensing, a person should not be able to use words like   “psychology”, “counseling,” “diagnosis,” or  even “therapy.”  Even the use of words like “healing” and “pain” by unregulated practitioners (which includes the majority of Energy Methods practitioners) have come under attacked by some licensing bodies. While some refer to
the body of related techniques as Energy Psychology or Bio-energetic Therapies, I prefer the generic name of Energy Methods.  The use of any such words is intended to have the most generic, common place, non-clinical, and lay of meanings.

While there may occasionally be overlapping language between the medical professionals and
practitioners of bio-energetic methods, bio-energetic practitioners commonly use the names of conditions to refer not to the conditions themselves, but frequencies, energy flows, and/or disruption f those energy flows commonly associated with the condition.    If disease names are used in the course of treatment, it is understood that these names describe energetic frequencies (or disruptions) commonly associated with disease, but are in no way proven to be the actual diseases themselves.   To be clear: The Energy Methods generally, and Marilyn McWilliams and EFT Catalyst LLC specifically do not diagnose or treat medical conditions; instead they work with the energy patterns or disruptions understood to underlie the emotions that may cause or contribute to mental, physical, and of course emotional, distress.

The currently prevailing premise of the Energy Methods is that the flow and balance of the body’s electromagnetic and more subtle energies are important for physical and emotional health, and
for fostering well-being. A rising number of scientific studies support this position.  Some of the Energy
Methods, such as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) use the ancient Chinese meridian system to balance, stimulate, or engage an individual’s energy with a gentle tapping procedure which stimulates designated meridian end points on the face and body. When the body’s energy field is balanced and flowing without disruption, and that flow allows for the natural and appropriate processing or resolution
of emotionally charged information, the body often resolves many of its own stress related issues.
